Florida Partnership for Minority and Underrepresented Student Achievement
In accordance with 1007.35, Florida Statute, it is the intent of the Florida Legislature that every student enrolled in a public secondary school has access to high-quality, rigorous academics, with a particular focus on access to advanced courses and acceleration options; it is the intent of the Legislature to provide assistance to all public secondary schools, with a primary focus on low-performing middle and high schools; and it is the intent of the Legislature that the partnership program accomplish its mission primarily through strengthening the content knowledge of teachers and providing instructional resources, including materials and strategies, which enable teachers to provide instruction to students who have diverse learning styles. The Partnership Program will deliver effective services and activities to increase the academic achievement and college readiness of minority and underserved students who are enrolled in low-performing and/or rural area middle and high schools.
The mission of the Florida Partnership for Minority and Underrepresented Student Achievement program (The Partnership Program) is to prepare, inspire, and connect students to postsecondary success and opportunity, with a particular focus on minority students and students who are underserved in postsecondary education.
Objectives:
Program activities must support the following goals:
- Delivery of teacher training and professional learning to increase the number of students enrolled in advanced courses,
- Increase of the number of students who successfully complete and pass advanced course examinations; and
- Improve the skill level and ability of students at the level that will prepare them for the admission and completion of a postsecondary education.

Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children is a comprehensive program that provides mentors and college scholarships for low-income students in grades 6-9 in order to enhance their likelihood of college preparation and attendance. This program provides students with vocational-technical scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates, tutoring and community support. Each child signs a contract agreeing to maintain good grades, to remain drug and crime free, and to meet with his/her mentor regularly to receive the scholarship. Each student is assigned a caring adult mentor who meets with the student at his/her school for one hour each week.

Program activities must support the following goals:
- Improve student performance of low-performing, at-risk students,
- Reduce dropout rates by providing additional learning opportunities, and
- Enhance instruction, mentoring activities and training, and provide mentor support to address unmet needs at low-performing schools.

Breakthrough Miami
Breakthrough Miami provides a unique 8-year, tuition-free program using a Students-Teaching-Students Model designed to increase academic opportunity for motivated, underserved and traditionally marginalized students, and to inspire and develop the next generation of teachers and educational leaders. Breakthrough Miami’s out-of-school time academic and social enrichment program provides an unparalleled rigorous curriculum, complemented by social emotional learning, that progresses and scaffolds to engage and meet students’ developmental needs based at each grade level.
Objectives:
Program activities must support the following goals:
- Identify and support students to thrive academically, gain access to rigorous middle and high school programs, and matriculate and complete post-secondary studies, and
- Enhance instruction, mentoring activities, training, mentor support and through professional development opportunities for program volunteers and student teaching fellows.
