Victims of Communism Day

Tallahassee, FL, November 7, 2022 – During the 2022 Legislative Session, Governor Ron DeSantis spearheaded legislation to declare November 7 the annual Victims of Communism Day for Florida. Florida is home to millions of individuals who came here seeking freedom from countries controlled by Communism. November 7th marks the beginning of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and has been recognized nationwide by a Presidential Proclamation since 2017.

For the inaugural day of recognition, Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz, Jr. and Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez attended an event in Miami-Dade County to support the past, current and future victims of Communism. The local event educated students about the horrors of Communism and celebrated life within the free State of Florida.
