Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! – Madison County Central School Visit
Madison, Fla., January 27, 2026 – In recognition of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, the 18th annual Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! focused on America’s founding with the theme “Read, White and Blue: Celebrating 250 Chapters of America.” Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas, Florida Department of Education staff and local education leaders, including the Madison County Superintendent, visited kindergarten classrooms at Madison County Central School on January 27. During the visit, Commissioner Kamoutsas and other guest readers read aloud F Is for Flag by Wendy Cheyette Lewison to 200 kindergarten and Voluntary Prekindergarten students and engaged with teachers and school leaders to promote literacy and foster strong reading habits among young learners.
Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! is a statewide initiative that highlights the critical role of reading in academic success and lifelong learning. Events held throughout the week encouraged Florida’s students and families to make reading a daily habit. This year’s theme connected literacy development with age-appropriate civics knowledge, aligning with Governor Ron DeSantis’ Civics Literacy Initiative, which prioritizes strong awareness of American history, civics and government.
