Description of the 2004 FCAT Writing+ Prompts
GRADE 4
Writing to Explain (Expository)
The Grade 4 expository prompt (topic) directed students to
choose a person they like and explain why they like that person.
Writing to Tell a Story (Narrative)
The Grade 4 narrative prompt (topic) directed students to
write a story about going on a special ride.
GRADE 8
Writing to Explain (Expository)
The Grade 8 expository prompt (topic) directed students to
choose an invention and explain the importance of that invention.
Writing to Persuade (Persuasive)
The Grade 8 persuasive prompt (topic) directed students to
persuade the principal either to allow or not allow students
to chew gum at school.
GRADE 10
Writing to Explain (Expository)
The Grade 10 expository prompt (topic) directed students to
choose a job and explain why they would not like to have that
job.
Writing to Persuade (Persuasive)
The Grade 10 persuasive prompt (topic) directed students to
persuade community leaders whether to set a weekend curfew.
