Commissioner Dr. Henry Mack

Dr. Henry Mack, Florida's 30th Commissioner of Education, leads the state's efforts to expand educational opportunities, support parental rights, and strengthen workforce education. Following Governor Ron DeSantis' recommendation of Dr. Mack, the State Board of Education unanimously selected him on July 22, 2026. Commissioner Mack is committed to building on Florida's nation-leading education system by ensuring students have access to high-quality educational options that prepare them for success in college, career, and life

Commissioner Mack most recently served as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor, where he oversaw the nation's workforce, employment, reemployment, and education programs and services. Prior to federal service, Dr. Mack worked in higher education and workforce leadership positions, serving as a Chancellor at the Florida Department of Education, a college and university Provost, Vice President, and Chief Innovation Officer. He has also held multiple faculty positions across our State University System, teaching courses in the philosophy of education, education policy, and the philosophy of religion.

Commissioner Mack earned his bachelor's and graduate degrees in philosophy and theology from the Catholic University of America, and his doctorate in education administration and philosophy of education from the University of Miami.
