Statement By: Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson Regarding FCAT 2.0 and Algebra 1 cut scores

Today, I submitted my recommended achievement levels and cut scores for FCAT 2.0 Reading for grades 3-7, FCAT 2.0 Mathematics for grades 3-8 and Algebra 1 End-of-Course Assessments. These recommended scores will be discussed during the State Board of Education's upcoming workshop in Jacksonville, and it is anticipated that a final decision will be made during its meeting in December.

I am continuing to gather stakeholder input on FCAT 2.0 Reading for grades 8-10. I want to ensure that I have ample time to analyze feedback on our standards as we continue to prepare our students for their future.

Our state has long-established high expectations for our students. As we move forward, it is vitally important that students are well prepared to move to the next level, whether it is continuing their K-12 experience, a postsecondary education or a career. Our students' ability to compete in an ever-changing global economy depends on the expectations state leaders set for them and the learning opportunities provided by schools. I have complete confidence in the capabilities of our teachers and students to meet these challenges.
