Tallahassee, Fla., Sept. 24, 2012 - Alex Lopes, Florida's 2013 Teacher of the Year, took part in the nationally-broadcast Teacher Town Hall yesterday as part of NBC's 2012 Education Nation Summit. NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams moderated the interactive event at the New York Public Library hearing from educators in the audience and around the country about the challenges, potential solutions, and innovations shaping education."As Florida's Teacher of the Year, I had the opportunity to participate in the discussion about improving education at the national level," said Alex. "It is important for our state to be represented in this national dialogue."
The teacher town hall followed an interactive student town that hall kicked off the first day of a three-day summit and weeklong series about education. Now in its third year, Education Nation seeks to deepen public engagement to improve student achievement and workforce preparedness. The focus this year is on innovation and technology.
