Department of Education and Miami-Date County Schools to Host Community Engagement Meeting
The Florida Department of Education, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Schools, will host a community engagement meeting tonight at Miami Central Senior High School. Parents, community leaders and other supporters of Holmes Elementary, Miami Central Senior High School and Miami Edison Senior High School are encouraged to participate in this opportunity to learn how the local community can get involved in helping these schools increase student achievement.The event will feature Dr. Warren Simmons with the Annenberg Institute for School reform at Brown University. Dr. Simmons is a national expert on educational policy and K-12 school and education reform. As director of the Annenberg Institute, Simmons advocates for "smart education systems" that create and sustain excellent and equitable public education systems.
This community engagement event is being held as part of the Intervene status waiver granted for these schools during the July 19, 2011, State Board of Education meeting.
