First Lady Ann Scott Continues Summer Literacy Adventure
Tallahassee, Fla., June 23, 2015 – First Lady Ann Scott continues the Summer Literacy Adventure tomorrow at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach. In partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Lottery, the Summer Literacy Adventure challenges all Florida students to pledge to read as many books as possible during the summer break.
The 2015 Summer Literacy Adventure motivates children to stay on target and excited about reading and literacy. During summer vacation, it is important for students of all ages and reading levels to spend time reading and writing on a regular basis. Research shows that by the time a struggling reader reaches middle school, summer reading loss has accumulated to a two-year lag in reading achievement.
At the end of the summer, pledges will be tallied and the schools that have the most participants will receive a surprise visit from First Lady Scott.
