Office Of Healthy Schools
Welcome to the Healthy Schools webpage! Our Vision is "Florida's Children: Healthy, Fit and Ready to Learn." Healthy Schools encompasses two curriculum content areas: Health Education and Physical Education and the following projects; Statewide Online Tobacco Prevention Teacher Training; USF Healthy Schools HIV/STD, Teen Pregnancy Prevention and School-based Survey.
Healthy Schools fully embraces the eight-component Coordinated School Health (CSH) model. CSH approach is designed to address issues of student health and academic success at the state, district and school levels.
Eight Components of Coordinated School Health
The CSH approach consists of eight major components:
- Health Education
- Physical Education
- Health Services
- Nutrition Services and Education
- Counseling, Psychological and Social Services
- Healthy School Environment
- Health Promotion for Staff
- Parent and Community Involvement
By definition all Coordinated School Health components work together to improve the lives of students and their families. Although these components are listed separately, it is their continuous merging that allows CSH to have significant impact.
Healthy School District Recognition
Florida's Coordinated School Health Partnership, Florida Association of District School Superintendents and Florida Action for Healthy Kids recognize 27 counties as Florida Healthy School Districts. Recognition is based on submission of the completed Florida Healthy School District (FHSD) Self-Assessment. Recognition is awarded for a period of two years. Teams that completed the tool reported that the process improved their knowledge of standards, legislation, and best practices; and enhanced their ability to maximize resources and eliminate duplication.

The interactive training on this site will help you renew, refresh and reinvigorate your team's efforts to improve the health and wellness of students and staff in your district. The material is based on lessons learned and strategies developed as part of the 2011 Healthy School District Training - Using the Coordinated School Health (CSH) Approach. It provides an opportunity for district wellness policy committees and School Health Advisory Committees (SHACs) to create a solid foundation to implement CSH and enhance their wellness efforts.
