Thousands of Florida Teachers Benefit From Certification Exam Fee Waiver
~ Florida educators have saved more than $8 million ~

Tallahassee, Fla., April 21, 2020 – Today, Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran announced that as of April 21, 2020, more than 31,000 individuals have registered to take the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) using the fee waiver. This represents more than 62,000 actual exam registrations for a savings value of more than $8 million for Florida educators. As Florida weathers the effects of the COVID-19 virus, the fee waiver helps educators during this time of economic challenges.

“I am thrilled that so many educators are taking advantage of the exam fee waivers,” said Commissioner Richard Corcoran. “Waiving the exam fee is the right thing to do during these difficult economic times to support our well-deserving teachers, and I am proud to provide this opportunity. This is another way for us to show our appreciation for the hard work our teachers are putting forth every day, especially during the COVID-19 health emergency. The waiver will not only give our educators a chance to take any necessary exams for their teaching certificate, but will also help alleviate Florida’s teacher shortage.”

On March 17, 2020, Commissioner Corcoran announced that exam fees for teacher-certification related examinations would be waived and test takers who were unable to take an exam due to test site locations closing would be granted an extension to meet those requirements. Testing candidates were able to begin registering for the free exams on April 1, 2020.
