Commissioner Diaz and Secretary Davis Join Forces to Highlight Florida Bright Futures Scholarships
Tallahassee, Fla., March 26, 2024 – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. and Lottery Secretary John F. Davis visited Jones High School to highlight the many opportunities available through the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program. More than 150 students in 9th and 10th grade gathered in the school’s auditorium and were provided information about the scholarship, including eligibility requirements, different scholarship tiers and the many postsecondary education programs it can also be used for. This will be the third high school that Commissioner Diaz and Secretary Davis have visited this school year to raise awareness of Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.
“Education provides the foundation for students to grow and achieve their greatest potential,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I am proud of the work that Florida’s students, teachers, administrators and the Florida Bright Futures Program have done to promote higher education in our state, and I remain committed to making sure that our students are given every opportunity to excel and pursue their lifelong career aspirations.”

Davis. “We are proud to partner with the Florida Department of Education and pledge to help students recognize their fullest capabilities with access to a brighter future.”

Vazquez. “The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program plays an influential role in our community by providing students with the opportunity to pursue higher education and achieve their life goals.”
The Florida Bright Futures Program was established in 1997 and is funded by the Florida Lottery to reward Florida’s brightest high school students for their academic achievements. Since its introduction, the Florida Bright Futures Program has granted over 950,000 scholarship awards. The Florida Bright Futures Program offers four scholarships: the Florida Academic Scholarship, Florida Medallion Scholarship, Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship. Current seniors and students seeking state financial aid for the 2024-25 school year have until August 31, 2024, to apply.
