Healthy Kids – What’s Happening in Florida

available. Data on this site were compiled by the Council of Chief State School Officers with support from the National Dairy
The Center for the Study of Children's Futures
Located at the University of South Florida, the Center is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of Florida's children
through data, research, analysis, and community involvement. The Florida KIDS COUNT project is one of the activities in the Center.
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention - Youth Online
Lets you analyze national, state, and local Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) data from 1991-present. Data from high
school and middle school surveys are included. You can filter and sort on the basis of race/ethnicity, sex, grade, or site, create
customized tables and graphs, and perform statistical tests by site and health topic.
The Child and Youth Well-Being Index
A measure of trends over time in the quality of life or well-being of America’s children and young people. The Project is supported
by grants from the Foundation for Child Development.
Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family
Offers access to statistics and reports on children and families, including population and family characteristics, economic
security, health, behavior and social environment, and education.

Kaiser Family Foundation State Health Facts

Kids Count State-Level Data
Contains state-level data of over 75 measures of child well-being. Use the Profiles by State search window to return results for

National Center for Health Statistics
Data is collected from birth and death records, medical records, interview surveys, and through direct physical exams and
laboratory testing. NCHS is a key element of our national public health infrastructure, providing important surveillance
information that helps identify and address critical health problems. The site is designed to provide quick and easy access to the
wide range of information and data. It links to additional sources of health information and provides a way to query electronically
to obtain answers to specific questions.

National Survey of Children’s Health
The site project of the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative, the National and State Profiles page lets you compare
Florida to other states, regions, or nationally with regard to Child Health Indicator Profile, Healthy People 1010 Profile,
demographic profile, or chartbook state profile.

From the Florida Department of Health, this data source provides a county-level overview of the wellbeing of Florida’s youth
including high risk behaviors, injuries and violence, social-emotional development, school and social environment, and access to
care. The Profile was developed in collaboration with the Florida Departments of Education, Juvenile Justice, Highway Safety &
Motor Vehicles, Children and Families, and the Agency for Health Care Administration.
School Health Profiles
A link to the biennial Profiles reports. DOE Office of Healthy Schools provides coordination and oversight of this survey.
SHPPS: School Health Policies and
A national survey periodically conducted to assess school health policies and programs at the state, district, school, and
classroom levels. SHPPS was conducted in 1994 and 2000, and was most recently conducted in 2006. Click on State Report Cards to
access Florida information. Sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)

Education provide organizational structure and processes for the survey and collection of information for the YRBS.
