Best & Brightest Scholarship Program


The 2018 Legislature revised section 1012.731, Florida Statutes (F.S.), The Florida Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program. As a result of the devastating effects of Hurricane Michael on many Florida school districts and the consequent relocation of teachers throughout the state, some teachers may not be able to meet the November 1, 2018, deadline established in section 1012.731, Florida Statutes (F.S.), The Florida Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program. Therefore, in accordance with Executive Order 2018-276, Section 4B., section 252.46, F.S., and as necessary to facilitate the recovery from Hurricane Michael and allow the victims of the disaster to more quickly return to normal life, Commissioner Stewart issued an emergency order to extend the Best and Brightest Teacher and Principal Scholarship deadlines (PDF).

Section 1012.731(3)(b), F.S., is waived provided that eligible classroom teachers submit documentation of a qualifying assessment score for The Florida Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program by December 3, 2018.

  • As a result of this extension, the deadline provided in section 1012.731(4), F.S., for school district submission of information related to both the Best and Brightest Teacher and Principal Scholarship programs to the Florida Department of Education (department), is extended to January 7, 2019; and
  • The deadline provided in section 1012.731(5), F.S., for the department to disburse scholarship funds to each school district is extended to March 1, 2019.
